For
those unaware, 10th Planet Jiu-jitsu

Jean Jacques Machado Black Belt, Eddie Bravo.

most innovative, passionate,

game is slowly
changing the face of MMA.
He first became famous for using his unique strategies to
defeat Royler Gracie in ADCC 2003,

let alone,
submit

powerful and
imposing strategy for dominating in BJJ

Last fortnight we
conducted another 10th Planet Jiu Jisu seminar with Sensei Frank Barca
from Melbourne. It was a great weekend and we covered lots
of revision and new territory. Of particular interest was
the tournament prep drills and strategy work we completed on day
2. Our ground game will be No Gi and very much 10th Planet
oriented with a few of my own add ins to keep us
unique. We will compete next year for Zen Chi
Ryu in a range of Local, State and National
tournaments. I was impressed with how quickly
we picked up on our ground game after no real focus
here during the Warrior Way preparation. We
will work diligently over the Christmas break to
refine the game as taught to us by Sensei Frank
Barca.
Frank was fresh back
from L.A. and earning his Purple Belt from Master
Eddie Bravo, so it was awesome to get the latest
curriculum revisions. 10th Planet continues to
evolve with proven No Gi techniques.
Finally we made it to this
weekend. Our 10th Planet JJ Seminar facilitated by the
energetic Sensei Frank Barca was outstanding! We ended up
with 4 late withdrawals so we had 25 keen people ready to
accelerate their ground game and have their minds open to the
reality of No Gi grappling that works. We welcomed new
friends into our dojo from Rockhampton, Brisbane and the Gold
Coast. Tamati gets the prize for dedication as he drove
for 7 hrs with only 20 mins sleep to be there.
On Saturday we went through
the history of 10th Planet JJ, it's philosophy and main
concepts. We then worked on the start of the basic
techniques, and I can tell you it makes the world of difference
having an instructor as competent and Frank to help. We
have been working out of Master Eddie's book for the last 5
months and we were missing a lot of small items that make the
difference.

Saturday night was a change of
pace with a great dinner party for the senior students and
Frank. Kate put on an amazing "Steam Boat" style meal.
Brad entertained us as usual with his humour and Australianisms.
Plenty of war stories and philosophies of life were exchanged.
On Sunday we headed
back to the mat. Lots of sore calves but everyone was
still as keen as mustard to delve further into this system.
We revised
everything from Saturday's class then moved onto;
From the rubber

Sensei Frank then
went on a free roll with Sempai Andrew. He moved through
everything he had shown us and added a full range of variations
to each attack and submission. It was awesome to watch and
drew a huge applause from the group.
Sunday's session
wound up with a great Q&A and another quality lunch supplied by
the Zen Ladies. Thank-you to all students who helped to
pack up and move the mats on both Saturday and Sunday - it is
very much appreciated. If any of you have any spare time
on Friday evening, I am sure that Sempai Nathan would appreciate
a little assistance in setting up the mats for this weekend as
they are in no particular order and it will take quite a while
to rearrange them as we like them.
Well the journey
has started. Now we have to put the reps into what we have
been taught. So Friday nights will continue to be devoted
to the ground game and lifting our skills before Sensei Frank
returns at the end of the year to check our progress.
For me the best
part of this weekend was meeting new people on the same journey
and establishing solid relationships that will serve to enhance
all parties as they push forward with their own training and
dojo development.
Conceive, Believe, Achieve and put the reps in team!
