The Martial Arts and Your Personality Type I'm sure you’ve heard about the different personality types. Here is one simple view of different type.... In a later article we will explore how MBTI theory relates to Martial Arts training. But for now, lets look at type A, B & Z personalities. Type A’s are those that are very competitive and goal-oriented. They are generally great at business, sport and gravitate to leadership roles. If they get stuck at one set of traffic lights they explore the option of driving several blocks to avoid the next set, as they hate to sit still and waste time. Type B’s are the people who are more relaxed and laidback about life. If they get stuck at a set of traffic lights they will look around and enjoy the moment and the scenery. Recently in the news, there has been talk about a third personality type......Type Z.
Type Z’s are those who are often negative,
hostile, depressed and moody and they are often insecure and tense in social
situations. On the outside thaey can appear calm. but, on the inside it
like a volcano ready to erupt. For example, while Type A’s are likely to succeed at everything they do or at least work themselves to the bone trying, they also often under a lot of stress. The are prime candidates for stress related illnesses such as heart attacks. Type B’s are unlikely to experience stress because stressful situations tend to encourage them to get the job done and are usually quite unlikely to get irritated about the small things. They are great people to be around in a crisis. Type Z’s may or may not
accomplish what they need to do because they are often in a distressed state of
mind. They suppress the performance of their immune systems through
unreleased stress and anxiety. Peter Reilly Sensei 2007
